WOW. Okay, what a rush this last day has been--so many extra credit stories finishing up, main stories getting completed at the last hour! I've kept track of points to the best of my ability, and here's where it all falls out:

(*grins* Kinda funny that the team that was all, we're in fourth place and we're comfy, dammit, pulls it off at the end, hmm? :D)

31 out of 32 people finished their stories. That is--that is so *cool*. Many people have told me they probably never would've finished these suckers if not for this challenge, so you'll forgive me if I glow off that for awhile.

I have come to two conclusions:

One, that should this challenge occur again next summer, the person coordinating cannot be writing for it. That's--just plainly insane.

Two, this was one of the best fandom projects I've ever been involved in, and I'm so proud of everyone who entered into this challenge. I know, obviously, how hard this was, and how hard it is to pick up a story that's been floundering for awhile. You are all so very awesome.

If you have any suggestions for whoever is running this next year (possibly me, who knows, I might lose my mind again), but yeah, a way this could have worked better, something you really liked about it, please leave them in the comments, as well as any further comments about wip_it_good you might have.

And if you'd like to drop a note of praise to a person on your team who you felt went above and beyond for this challenge, please feel free to do so as well. Myself, I'd like to smile over at icalynn, who I got to know through this a little bit, and is just extraordinarily sweet.

FURTHERMORE (this post will end soon, promise), please post any links to your stories in the comments section here as they get posted, and I'll update the site to reflect that throughout the month.

So. My fellow submissiongirls--I guess someone had to lose, and I couldn't think of a better group of women to go down with. We shall do this with style and grace and whatnot. Everyone in our group must pick one of the following. (Except justabi, who must pick two):

ConsequencesCollapse )

Huh. And I guess that winds it up, then. Once again, well done, everyone!

WOW. A lot of stories rushing in at the last moments here, so our final tally with less than 24 hours left to go.

Report in any of the last couple of threads or this one by 11:59 p.m. CST for your story to be counted. Reporting on your journal, in my journal, through e-mail--not counting it. Report in a post I've recently made in this comm so I can keep track. I am making one exception--swanswan, you're lucky that I'm nice and allowing your story to count despite the fact you only posted about it in your LJ and then proceeded to skip off to France, and probably won't even see this admonition, but that's it.

Everyone's out for themselves at this point. If you don't see something listed on here--that I didn't say + an Extra Credit and you did one, it is not in your points total and you need to tell me, because I somehow missed it. Again, if you don't correct this, still not counting it, just to make that perfectly clear here.

I'll do a wrap up post tonight, along with a little blurb about how the Embarrassing Things are going to work. (Um. Hopefully, it won't be something I'll have to experience first-hand. *eyes fellow submissiongirls*)

A couple people e-mailed for clarification so I'll address them here.

No, you don't have to post your story to receive credit. We're on the honor system here. Lie, and you're going to the Bad Fannish Hell, the sort where sure, there are naked houseboys making out, but they're eighty and hard of hearing.

*stares* Don't do something that'll send you to the Bad Fannish Hell.

Yes, in the rules post it states:

Fail to finish the story/drop out entirely: minus 900 points

So, yes, if you don't finish, 900 points are getting deducted from your team's score.

And all the Embarassing Things can be found here. Team with the lowest total points: Every single member must choose to do one of the following three embarrassing things. Additionally, all the people who failed to finish their stories (on any team) have to pick one from the list. The people who failed to finish their main stories on the team with the least amount of points will have to pick TWO things from the list.

Hope that addresses both e-mails; and good luck to those of you still writing during this cold, cold, July weekend. *eg*

Everything here is all the quotas, bonus points, stories through tonight added up. COMMENT IN THIS POST AS YOU COMPLETE YOUR STORIES FROM HERE ON OUT, please. No quotas for this weekend. Just write, write, write.

All remaining main and extra credit stories are due Monday, August 1st at 11:59 p.m. CST. Anything not in this comments section will not be counted. I don't care if you fall asleep, or your computer blows up or your cat starts talking and it *really* distracted you or anything that's actually traumatic. The only way I can keep this as fair as possible is to not give any leeway for any reason and see how that all--you know. Works out. We're all still on the honor system here, people. The team with the least amount of points shall...get their due. *evil smile*

Good luck to those of you still writing.

*humming a jaunty little tune*

It's a couple minutes off, but we'll go with it--when this time clock is down to zero, that's when I'll stop counting people for entries into the extra credit drawing.

All extra credit stories and finished final stories are to be reported in the PREVIOUS post and I'll tally 'em up with your final quota reports and the drawing points winners. If your story (extra credit or main) is NOT on the website or the comments of the last post you need to tell me so I can assess points correctly.

I'll try and get an updated points tally up right after, so we know what we're up to heading into Extension Week here.

jubilant

current mood: jubilant

I very sneakily edited the last post earlier this week so that people would only know if there was an extension if they actually looked or took it upon themselves to e-mail me. Heighten the sense of panic, because I'm nice like that.

Anyway. Yes, there's an extension. All stories are to be completed by Monday, August 1st at 11:59 p.m. CST No further extensions will be given, and nothing else will be credited. (You may report that you've finished a story in this post ONLY please, from here on out, so I can add things in and keep a sort of running tally so you know what your team has to do.) And yes, you can work on your declared extra credit stories during this time if your main story is completed.

Hmm. To make this more interesting, what the heck. If you manage to make the original date--July 25th at 11:59 p.m. CST, I'll enter your team in for a drawing for 400 extra points. The more people on your team that finish their stories by the original date, the better chance your team will have for those points. No points will be subtracted or anything if you go for the 1st instead though. (And yes, if you already finished your story, your team gets an entry, but no extra credit stories will be counted for our third and final "random points giveaway" here.)

Congratulations to everyone who has already completed their stories! Home stretch, people! Home stretch!

Standings remain unchanged. All points are current through Week Seven, including the Team Effort weeks, quotas and stories completed. I highlighted out_there in red as the person last counted in the previous tally so you could all see the most recent points added here on the website.

For the Team Effort weeks, yeah, I went with straight word count.

36,783 words for wip_a_team (dragonsinger, you won the drawing for the free paid time--so let me know if you want 2 months free for a paid account, or 6 months of paid extra user pics, please. *g*)

29,280 wip_b_team
23,207 submissiongirls

Something I would like to know. If I were to grant an extension--stories due August 1st, would this actually help anyone out a great deal?

Whoever wants the extension--you're basically supposed to *work on it this week*, hardcore, and not procrastinate until NEXT WEEK, is the thing.

Don't vote if you're not participating. If you've finished your story, you can still vote. Once again, don't care how this turns out. I think I can finish mine either way, but I know some of you might really want this. So. Vote!

ETA: All teams have reported in, thank you! *g* I'll mess around with formulas and word counts this weekend and see where we end up with each option, and then go from there and get it figured out. *g*

Okay, think I've got it sorted out for our team efforts over the last two weeks. We need to figure out which one of these options works better for the majority, and in the comments of this post (screened), have someone from your team tell me how many words each and every member of your team wrote from June 19th through July 3rd. Count all words you wrote, even if you wound up deleting them. Report this to me by Friday night this week. Quota reporting is back in effect, so report in the Quota thread by Sunday night. Website will be updated with newly finished stories and new points tally will be up on the community then.

I only want *one* person from each team with 8 individual numbers, and then their final total in your comment. So be nice and post to your communities what you had, if you haven't already so someone can collect them. If someone has a permanent account, please indicate that so I can take them out of the drawing for the free paid time.

Your Points Assessment Options: (Read carefully, then vote.)

Option A

Because justabi is mathematically inclined, I had her write up her solution to our little team count quandary. *pats her genius self*

A straight percentage disproportionately favors short stories. Take two examples, two writers who both wrote 5000 words, an accomplishment for both. One writer’s total word count is 10,000 (writer A), the other’s is 50,000 (writer B). Both writer A and writer B have written the same 5000 words, but with a straight percentage writer A gets 50 points and writer B gets 10. For the same amount of work, writer B has earned 80% fewer points simply because her story is five times longer than writer A’s story.

A bonus of one point per ten thousand words is only .01% of the writer’s word count, and would do *something* to normalize the results. In this example, the bonus would give writer A a score of 51 and writer B a score of 15.

A bonus of one point per thousand words, .1% of total word count gives writer A a score of 60 and writer B a score of 60.

Or, Option B

Basically--word counts are combined, that's it. Person A wrote 1,000, person B wrote 2,000, person C wrote 498. Add them together, put them up against the other teams and see who has the highest number.

And now that you have seen both of the options, I would like to see which one you prefer. Option A, Option B--vote for whatever you think is fairer, or hey, vote for whatever option benefits you and your team more. I seriously don't care which one "wins", I just want as many people happy as possible with it. So.

Poll #527215 DO. NOT. VOTE. IN. THIS. POLL. IF. YOU. ARE. NOT. WRITING. FOR. THIS. PROJECT. THANK. YOU. (*g*)

Vote!

Option A, because it is fairer
12(63.2%)
Option B, because it is fairer
6(31.6%)
Option A, because my team benefits more
1(5.3%)
Option B, because my team benefits more

To make up for Gaston's inattentiveness (yeah, it was all *the lamp*, that'll teach me to leave an inanimate object steering the ship!), I have decided to forego the Quota Thread this week--everyone gets full points this weekend automatically, no need to report it in the thread. This is also a Happy Canada and Happy Fourth of July present. Um, everyone else, just be glad those two countries exist, k, since it got you 400 points. *g*

On Sunday, I will put up a thread where you will tell me the number of words you wrote for the last two weeks, and we'll figure out who's getting the points and what team is eligible for the paid time drawing.

Website has been updated, with links to stories that are available, and a nifty new Countdown Clock of Doom. Because I'm special and encouraging like that.

Now that I have returned, you must help me fill in the gaps left by his poor and sadly, lacking leadership.

Link me to your finished stories, if they're up, or tell me if you've finished your story again so I can put you on the wall of fame and assess your team points properly. I know out_there finished an extra credit and writan_bur finished their Main Story.

Team week is extended through Sunday and I'll explain the nifty mathematical formula justabi came up with so that the people with longer stories and people with shorter stories should get the same amount of credit. Unless it makes more sense when all is said and done to go with straight word counts, we'll go with this.

Happy writing!

....yeah, okay, team challenge is now from this past Sunday through July 2nd. Sunday through midnight that Saturday. I will talk things over with swanswan and we will figure out some way to even it up for those of you who have shorter stories, so that this hard push for a word count will also benefit you next week. For now, we'll maintain and go for the word count, and perhaps change it around a bit for next week for those people with shorter stories, while still keeping the incentive in there for those of us with novels.

ARE WE ALL HAPPY NOW?

WOW. Congratulations to all of our writers for their push this week.

wip_a_team's norah gets her team the 100 bonus points this go around!

Congrats norah.....10,253 words in five days!!!

Runner-up!:

Poor aelora with 8,514, who got sidetracked by the Caped Crusader this week. Good show! I totally thought you had it by your posts!

Several people had 3, 4 and 5 thousand word counts, and that is so *great*. norah is just clearly not human, so we could not compete. *eyes*

I'd suggest you all take the next couple of days to relax, outline what's going to happen in your story, because starting Sunday is our Team Effort, where everyone's weekly word count from Sunday to Sunday will count for more bonus points and a drawing for a couple months of paid time.

Please note that everyone must still report quotas in the same manner as we've been doing by Sunday night, even if you commented in this latest little contest. Just lets me keep it all in one place. Thanks!

Everything's been unscreened in the last thread, if you want to see how everyone did.

Allrighty, wip_it_good players. I want you to count up however many words you have written since Sunday this week (including Sunday) and comment in this post with your numerical total by 11:59 p.m. CST Thursday night, US time, natch. Whoever has the highest total by that time wins their team 100 extra points!

All comments will be screened so people cannot take advantage of someone declaring their word count. Once you've commented, that's what I'm counting. I've disabled e-mail so I myself will not be checking any of these until after I've posted my word count in the comments as well.

You may *only* count your word count on your main story. The only person who can count their word count for an extra credit story is chain_lightning.

Heads up: Next week, from Sunday to Sunday will be Team Week. Everyone's word count will combine for that week, and the team with the highest amount of words for all eight people will get bonus points. Once again, the only people who can count words from extra credit stories are the people who have completed their main ones. I think I'll even randomly draw a name from the winning team to get 2 free months of paid user pics or journal time. (Your hostess, she would like to be generous, but alas, the financial gods are bitches. So 2 months! Whee!)

If you somehow have a question on this, comment on a different post that I've made on the comm, 'cause I will not be getting these.

Ready....set....go!

Item the First: A Lightning Round! 100 Bonus Points to Write Like The Wind!

In keeping with the fun surprises here, I think we'll try something out. I'm going to put up a post with a screened comments section.....let's say on Thursday this week. In that post you'll tell me how many words you have written from Sunday through Thursday. I will stop allowing comments after 24 hours. Whichever team has the person with the highest word count in those five days will get a special bonus of 100 points.

I'll figure out a fun random "extra credit points" session at least two more times like this. Since I want to be able to participate, what you'll wind up doing is heading your comments specifically how I tell you so I know not to read the comment.

Y'all just have to trust me to be fair and put in my word count blindly with the rest of you, just like we all have to trust that the person who wins actually writes that much. *grins*

I'll explain it clearer on Thursday if you're confused, but basically: Write A LOT between now and Thursday, remember to check out the comm sometime that day, and you could win your team 100 points.

Item the Second: Website, ahoy!

I have made a very bare-bones site if you like having one handy bookmark place. It is also going to be the eventual Wall of Fame (or, sadly, Shame) for our community members. Mmm. Wall.

Item the Third: Points Tally, End of Week Two

I wasn't going to count story points totals until July; I was was worried about getting myself confused. But I figure I'll get more confused if I don't count them now, so here we go. No longer neck-in-neck! *g* Remember, starting this week, your goal points were worth 50 points per person.

I decided to be nice and remind you to post whether you met your quotas in the goal setting thread. *grins* Next week, no reminder from me though, again, mostly for the amusement factor inherent.

I'm thinking we should increase the points for the weekly quota. Instead of 10 points weekly, it's now 50 points weekly per team member....just to make things more interesting here. This rule will be in effect for next week's quota reporting, which members of your team must do by 11:59 CST June 12. I'll edit all the relevant posts to reflect this later today.

A friendly reminder (which I may or may not do every week, depends if I am a) up, b) remember, so *do not count on it*), but--yeah, report whether or not your quotas have been met there.

Anyone who doesn't report in *that thread* by 11:59 p.m. CST tonight--Sunday-- (whether you've selected one person on your team to do it or if you're all going individually, doesn't matter, so long as people are accounted for), your words will not count for the goal setting points this week.

Also, last couple of days before I go all "I'm competing against you!", so remember to ask any questions you have now.

It's been so much fun seeing you all over the past week, organizing and mocking and getting all geared up to go. Keep up the great work! Good luck to all the teams! (Possibly excepting that team that writan_bur is on. Dude. *shakes fist!*)

There's several people watching this community who have said they wish to feedback stories/cheerlead. I know two or three of the teams have created community journals, so if you want to, feel free to post those names in the community if you'd like to invite people to watch.

If you only want your team members reading the journal, that's fine too.

Do whatever you're comfortable with. Discuss it among your group members and post your policy here if you're so inclined.

If you are someone interested in watching those journals though, let's say you're under a confidentiality agreement. Don't go--HAHA team member 3 from team whatever is totally doing two extra credit stories, basically. *snickers* That's just not how we're going to play this here.
